Our mission is to empower young men under 25 to become responsible fathers through community outreach programs, support, media, and educational materials that offer parenting skills, life skills, guidance, and career development education.
A Story of Hope, Struggle, and Dedication to Young Fathers
NewYoungFathers.com wasn’t just an idea—it was born from a moment that shook us to our core. In 2005, my uncle, Christopher Dandridge, showed me an article about a young mechanic who, after receiving his child support order, felt so overwhelmed and hopeless that he took the lives of the mothers of his children before ending his own. It was heartbreaking. As young fathers ourselves, we knew it didn’t have to be this way. What if that young man had access to support, guidance, and a community that helped him navigate fatherhood instead of feeling like he had no way out? That moment changed everything.
We started small—just a few of us talking, researching, and brainstorming. By 2008, I reached out to my friend Paul Elam, who shared powerful statistics showing how young fathers were struggling. That’s when it became clear: we had to do something. With the help of Trinisha Smith and David Bates, we started building the foundation of what would become NewYoungFathers.com—a place where young dads could find the support, education, and brotherhood they needed.
In 2009, we officially launched. We wrote the Young Fathers’ Handbook to give dads a practical guide to fatherhood. We filmed our first educational DVD using my daughter’s toy video recorder—because when you believe in something, you make it happen with whatever you have. My friend Corie Muhammad, through The Beat Peddlers, created the music that became the heartbeat of our movement.
As more fathers joined us, we knew we needed a stronger team. Educators like Kobie Brown, Leon Reed, and Corie Muhammad helped shape our curriculum. My uncle Steve Dandridge, my brother Martin Dandridge, and my lifelong friends, Rahman Muhammad and Rashad Muhammad helped with marketing and outreach. My wife, Nicole Dandridge, and my sister, Shelise Dandridge, stepped in to provide legal, business, and financial support.
What started as an idea became a movement. We’ve been honored with the BMe Award in 2012, the Spirit of Detroit Award in 2013, the Presidential Gold Medal in 2016 —but the real reward is seeing young fathers step up, break cycles, and build better futures for their children.
Today, we provide workshops on career development, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and even cybersecurity training—because being a great father isn’t just about love, it’s about providing opportunities.
This is our journey. It’s built on passion, resilience, and a deep love for young fathers who deserve a chance to succeed. If you’re a young dad looking for support—or someone who believes in this mission—we welcome you with open arms.
